Washington-Diabetes

In 2013, the American Association of Diabetes Educators partnered with state chapter Washington Association of Diabetes Educators to gain approval by the WA Department of Health for a new "Diabetes Educator" license. The bill they attached to this request would have required hundreds if not thousands of Washington practitioners who already provide diabetes and pre-diabetes education to get this new license. Other licensed professionals would have been required to get a second license, and qualified providers such as trained health coaches and community health workers would have been eliminated as providers of diabetes education. CNA alerted our many partner organizations to this bill after one of our WA based partners brought it to our attention. CNA organized letter-writing to the WA Department of Health. See our comments and the report the WA DOH issued echoing many of our arguments and rejecting the proposed new license.
