CURRENT LAW

Summary:

This is a Licensure with Exclusive Scope of Practice law. This law licenses dietitians and nutritionists and there is a non-RD pathway to licensure. Only a licensed dietitian or a licensed nutritionist can provide therapeutic nutrition care including: assessment, goal setting, counseling, or evaluating nutrient-drug interaction. This law has a broad exemption for lifestyle coaching as long as you do not use the titles "Licensed Dietitian," "Licensed Nutritionist," "Nutritionist," "Dietitian," or the initials "L.D.N.", or any combination of above terms and/or abbreviations. You may also provide therapeutic nutrition care if that care is part of a religious or spiritual practice but you may not use protected titles.

Note: Delaware amended its rules  in 2009 to provide the non-RD pathway to licensure. Click here to see the amendment.
